Wireless network access is available in the PAS area of building 510.

Available access points

At present there are three access points:

SSID name IP MAC location
---- ---- -- --- --------
pasnet paswap1.phy.bnl.gov 130.199.21.209 00-06-25-51-F1-75 1-221
pasnet paswap2.phy.bnl.gov 130.199.20.18 00-0C-41-66-DB-DA 1-225
                                                                1-226
Those with SSID pasnet are connected to the BNL internal network. These provide good coverage throughout the PAS corridor. They require WEP encryption and the key and instructions are provided below.

The other access point is connected to the vistor's network and is intended for use in room 1-226. It should require no special configuration except to disable encryption.

Using WEP encryption

ITD requires WEP encryption for access to the BNL network. Set key 2 to the following value: 6A76A274FBEE3CF5D86809C523

Windows XP

For standard Windows XP configuration, right click on the networking icon in the task bar, the select "View Available Wireless Networks" and then select advanced. Select pasnet and "Configure" or pasnet and "Properties". If pasnet does not appear in either window, try Add and enter the name pasnet.

Unselect the box next to "The key is provided to me automatically" and enter the above key in both boxes. Toggle the key index to the value 2 and click "OK"

Cisco cards

For Cisco cards with original configuration utilities, the key is recorded in the card using the client encryption manager. Select "Enter WEP key" from the Commands menu. Enter the above value in the field for key 2 and select key size 128. Click OK to load the value into your card. This only needs to be done once for any card and was done for the original set of card. The Aironet client utility is used to enable WEP.

The new Aironet client utility allows one to set the key directly. Create a new profile with SSID pasnet, select "Network Security" and use the above value for key 2.

WWW proxy

Remember that for the BNL internal network, you must use a WWW proxy to access sites outside of BNL. Automatic proxy configuration may be obtained from http://security.bnl.gov/proxy/cfg.pac .
