Muon reconstruction in release 14.2.22.1

D. Adams
October 2008

Release 14.2.22.1 is for production.

For other releases, see the complete list of results.

Issues in 14.2.22

Issues were last reported for 14.2.10.1.

1. Hole counts are absent for muid and staco combined.
  • Hole counting is not enabled in 14.2.22 reconstruction.

    2. Muid combined fit chi-square does not include the inner track. Staco includes inner, outer and match.
  • Users should add Muid inner and combined chi-squares (and DOF's) to get comparable values.
  • This is a feature, rather than a bug.
  • Same in 14.2.20.

    3. MuGirl fake rate increases in 14.2.22.1.
  • Reported in the combined muon presentation at the 13 Oct physics validation meeting.
  • Bug report: 42844
  • The fakes come from MuTagIMO which is first run in this release. The performance analysis will be updated to distinguish between these.

    4. There are more tracks in the MuGirl refitted tracks container than MuGirl muons (identified by author bit) in the Muid ESD muon collection.
  • This was observed in valid3.005200.T1_McAtNlo_Jimmy.recon.ESD.e322_s412_r555.

    5. Most of the MuGirl muons in the final muon container do not have extended track fits. In the ESD muon container most do have extended fits.
  • Bug report: 42936.
  • This was observed in valid3.005200.T1_McAtNlo_Jimmy.recon.ESD.e322_s412_r555.
  • It is still present in 14.2.24.1.

    6. The calorimeter tagging algorithms have low efficiency (10-60% for |eta| 0-2.5) in single muon events.
  • Bug report: 43569

    7. Moore and muid show 20% efficiency loss for |eta|>2.0 in the s462_r558 samples (ATLAS-GEO-02-01-00). The loss is not seen in the s412_r55 (ATLAS_CSC-02-01-00) samples.
  • This problem is not seen in 14.2.23.1.
    8. The muon truth match and fit quality are seen to degrade in releases 14.2.24.1 and 14.2.24.2 reco compared to earlier 14.2.2X. This was reported in the muon talk at the 04dec physics valdiation meeting.
  • The track errors are much smaller in the newer release. Residuals are unchanged.
  • The effect is not seen in the 13.0.40 simulation typically used for reco validation.
  • The problem is likely due to problems in the pixel distortion code. It is expected these will be fixed in 14.2.25.2 reconstruction.
