I'm not really a muon user but I have overall responsibility for the PESA high level trigger software, so I comment from a general trigger perspective. I'm pleased to see you have the most important use case from my point of view which is special for the trigger, i.e. unpacking subsets of the data on demand. This leads to your question about the granularity; I would say that one scheme to be seriously considered is the readout granularity, i.e. a digit collection corresponds to the data from a ROD. This is very convenient when it comes to unpacking on demand of the raw byte stream. In the requirements, I see req. 4 relates to this topic as well. Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, there is a need to be able to convert between simulated data (current simulation and future G4) and raw data in a byte stream, formated exactly as it will come from the RODs. In fact we need the conversion both ways because there is no simulation which durectly produces the data in this raw format yet. It may help you to know that David Calvet is adapting his Si digit design to use the Ma/Meesen containers. Maybe with this example and the LAr which Hong Ma is doing himself, some of your questions can be cleared up. Hong has presented the digit container design as a proposal, so if you have comments/suggestions it isn't too late to ask that it is changed. One consideration for the digit design is that is would be nice to have something very simple to use online (e.g. in LVL2) which is nevertheless compatible to a large extent with the offline/EF digit. For example a single word identifier whose geometry info can be found by use of a lookup table. This would minimise overheads in constructing digits from raw data and copying them in the trigger algorithms. Hope this is some help; I dare say you have more concrete feedback from the offline reconstruction people?
