August 20, 2004 - Release 0.92

Release 0.90 of DIAL has been built using gcc 3.2 under RedHat 7.3 in ATLAS release 8.6.0.

See the release page for information about this release.

June 11, 2004 - Release 0.90

Release 0.90 of dataset and DIAL has been built using gcc 3.2 under RedHat 7.3 in ATLAS release 8.1.0. There is now an installation kit.

See the release page for information about this release.

March 31, 2004 - Release 0.80

Release 0.80 of dataset and DIAL has been built using gcc 3.2 under RedHat 7.3 in ATLAS release 7.5.0. It again offers distributed processing of ATLAS combined ntuples with ROOT and command line interfaces.

The web service is now more robust and can be run from off site (tested from lxplus).

See the release page for information about this release.

January 16, 2004 - Release 0.70

Release 0.70 of dataset and DIAL has been built using gcc 3.2 under RedHat 7.3 in ATLAS release 7.0.0. It again offers distributed processing of ATLAS combined ntuples with ROOT and command line interfaces.

Major changes from the last release:
1. The SOAP scheduler service now supports GSI authentication.
2. The service is run at atlasgrid09.usatlas.bnl.gov:6190. Send output of grid-proxy-info to dladams@bnl.gov to get authorized.

See the release page for information about this release.

November 15, 2003 - Release 0.60

Release 0.60 of dataset and DIAL has been built using gcc 3.2 under RedHat 7.3 in ATLAS release 7.0.0. It again offers distributed processing of ATLAS combined ntuples with ROOT and command line interfaces.

Major changes from the last release:
1. Job updates can now be done in a thread separate from the one used to interact with users.
2. Dataset catalogs have been added and interfaces added so they can be used from withing in DIAL. A user may now specify a virtual dataset and let DIAL locate and split a suitable nonvirtual replica.
3. There is an initial implementation of a web service for handling DIAL requests from a DIAL client. This is incorporated in the command line example and a new ROOT example.

Demos for both the command line and ROOT interfaces are available. Pehaps most interesting is ROOT demo 2 (see the README) which does distributed analysis under ROOT and updates a histogram of partial results.

Very similar is ROOT demo 3 which uses a DIAL web service to do the processing. See the README)

See the release page for a description of this release and quick start instructions for running these demos.

September 18, 2003 - Release 0.50

Release 0.50 of dataset and DIAL has been built using gcc 3.2 under RedHat 7.3 in ATLAS release 6.0.0. It offers distributed processing of ATLAS combined ntuples with ROOT and command line interfaces.

Demos for both interfaces are available. Most interesting is ROOT demo 2 (see the README) which does distributed analysis under ROOT and updates a histogram of partial results.

See the release page for a description of this release and quick start instructions for running this demo.

August 25, 2003 - Release 0.40

Release 0.40 of dataset and DIAL has been built using gcc 3.2 in ATLAS release 6.5.0. This release provides support for processing ATLAS combined ntuple files with a command line as the front end. The ROOT interface is not included in this release because of dictionary problems.

This release add the capability of distributed processing using fork on the local machine, and LSF queue or the the LSF lsrun facility.

The release includes a demo that may be run at the ACF. Follow the instructions at README.

We expect to include the ROOT interface and Condor processing in the next release.

July 1, 2003 - Demo at CERN and RHIC

Release 0.3 has been modified so that DIAL demo may be run at CERN (on any lxplus machine) or at RHIC (on rplay1.rcf.bnl.gov).

June 19, 2003 - Release 0.3

Release 0.3 of dataset and DIAL has been built using gcc 3.2 in ATLAS release 6.2.0. This release provides support for processing ATLAS combined ntuple files with ROOT as the interactive front end.

The release includes a demo which any US-ATLAS user can run at the ACF. Follow the instructions in the README. Distributed processing is not yet supported but should appear soon. The purpose of this release is to allow users to experience and comment on the look and feel of DIAL.

We expect to port the demo to CERN (and any other interested sites) in the near future.

Comments are welcomed.

Support for the processing of AthenaRoot files has been suspended but can ealiy be revived if there is demand.

February 27, 2003 - Release 0.2

Make release 0.20 of DIAL and dataset. Both are tagged both v00_20_00 and v00_20. With an update to Xerces 2.1, both build in ATLAS release 5.3.0 with gcc 2.95.2.

Most of the code also compiles under gcc 3.2.

ROOT dictionary code was generated using an update to rootcint in ROOT 3.05.02 with gcc 2.95.2. The dictionary sources all compile without the workarounds required in previous releases. This implies that all methods of all dataset and DIAL classes should now be accessible inside of ROOT. Testing still needs to be done.

Code is available int he CVS repository

November 29, 2002

Package dial_root providing integration into ROOT has been added. This package can be used to make all the dataset and DIAL classes available at the ROOT command line. Only cursory testing has been done.

October 3, 2002

First version of dial_job is completed. This, dial_task and the dataset packages comprise a complete local analysis environment. The next step is define a dataset for some real data and generate interesting results. After that, we will extend the scheduler to distribute and process the the data on remote nodes.

August 21, 2002

First version of package dial_task is completed. It includes classes defining results and tasks. Next is jobs and applications.
