DiningNearBNL - Brief guide to some dining options near BNL

In no particular order

Please add your own experiences to the list.

  • Varney's. 2109 Montauk Highway, Brookhaven.
    • Looks like a shabby truck stop from the outside, but serves good seafood. Good selection of beers on tap. Prices are reasonable. Service can be slow at times, though.
  • Benten. 331 Route 25a, Mount Sinai.
    • An old standby for Japanese food near BNL.
  • Lotus East II. 331 Route 25a, Mount Sinai.
    • Decent Chinese in the same strip mall as Benten.
  • La Plage. 131 Creek Rd., Wading River.
    • Fine-dining that's closest to BNL, but be prepared to pay. Right on the beach at Wading River. A short walk brings you the view of the built-but-never-operated Shoreham nuclear power plant.
  • Chachama Grill. 655 Montauk Highway, East Patchogue.
    • Another fine-dining nouveau americain establishment relatively close to the lab. Again, be prepared to pay, although if you go before 6pm there is a 3-course prix-fixe dinner that's more affordable.
  • Windmill Diner. 530 William Floyd Pkwy, Shirley.
    • Once in your life you should experience the Long Island Diner (and once is probably enough), just to say that you have done it. Though probably not the best example, the Windmill is one of the closest to the lab.
  • Gracie's. Broadway and Prince Road, Rocky Point.
    • Basic, decent food.
  • King's Buffet, 3251 Horseblock Road, Medford.
    • Buffet-style all-you-can-eat Chinese (and some sushi).
  • Brick House Brewery. Main Street, Patchogue.
    • Fine beer, decent food, and (often) live entertainment.
  • Pasta Pasta. 234 East Main Street, Port Jefferson.
    • Fine Italian, but on the expensive side.
  • Salsa Salsa. 142 Main Street, Port Jefferson.
    • Burrito bar, mainly for takeout.
  • Pita House. 680 Medford Ave., Patchogue.
    • Decent and relatively inexpensive Turkish.
  • Alfie's. 41 Broadway, Rocky Point.
    • Casual Italian connected to a deli. Has both afficionados and detractors. Pasta dishes are not bad.
