AthenaMPFacilityTests

Introduction

Goal is to benchmark performance for AthenaMP jobs on Tier 1 and Tier 2 sites in the US Cloud and to determine optimal scheduling choices based on server types. For example, how many concurrent jobs should be run on an typical server found in the Facility: Dell R410, X5660, hyperthreading-enabled, 48G RAM per server (two banks of 24G). This will determine optimal multi-core scheduling settings. See also AthenaMPFacilityConfiguration.

Invoking AthenaMP

Any Athena job can be switched to AthenaMP mode with the following:

export ATHENA_PROC_NUMBER=N

where N is the desired number of worker processes. Usually N>1.

--nprocs=N
command-line argument to Athena.

If both of the above options are used simultaneously then the first option will have priority.
