Meetings:

The daily meetings for the M5 run will start on Monday 29 Oct.. The meetings are at 12:30 PM EDT. To join, please call: 1-712-429-0700 participant code: 219061

  • Minutes of the U.S. M5 Data Analysis Meeting? .

Mailing List

There is a U.S. ATLAS Hypernews setup for detailed discussion: To subscribe, go to : https://www.usatlas.bnl.gov/HyperNews/racf/login.pl?userid=&url=/HyperNews/racf/top.pl

and select U.S. ATLAS Commissioning.

If you do not have a Hypernews username/password, then send an e-mail to: rt-racf-UserAccounts@bnl.gov and ask for a Hypernews account. Note that you should already have an account on the Tier 1 to do this. In your message, please specify -- a desired hypernews username. Please also specify a contact person if you do not have an existing account at the Tier 1 facility.

Once you receive a HN username/password, you may go and subscribe to this (and other) list.

M5 Analysis Chat Room

  • We will try to keep a AIM chat room going throughout the M5 period. Use your IM client's "Join group..." function to join the group named "M5 ATLAS".
If you are using AIM from Windows, click on "People", click on "Start a Buddy Chat". This will give you a pop up Window. Enter m5atlas for the Chat Room name and your screen name in the Screen Name box. You can also invite others at this time if you wish.

If you have trouble, log into AIM with your client and then send an email with your AIM screen name (obtain one from aim.com) to Jim Shank to get invited to the chat.

Getting Started

  • Easiest way to get started... follow Hong's instructions and copy two files from his area:
make a directory:
mkdir 13.0.30-M5
mkdir 13.0.30-M5/run
cd 13.0.30-M5

Then copy a setup script:

cp /usatlas/u/hma/workarea/ForCraig/setup_download.sh .
source setup_download.sh #to be redone everytime you log in.

Copy a jobOpt, then run:

cd run
cp /usatlas/u/hma/workarea/ForCraig/run/RecExCommission_BNL.py .
athena -s RecExCommission_BNL.py >& reco.log

See the output:

ls *root

Software Release for M5 reconstruction/analysis at acas machines:

  • Address all questions about releases to Shuwei Ye.

  • This needs updating for M5:
  • Release 13.0.30 for M4 data and its patches (latest 13.0.30.13) have been installed as a kit release at BNL in the following location:

/afs/usatlas/software/downloads/releases/13.0.30

  • There is also a shorter symbolic link /opt/usatlas/kit_rel/13.0.30 pointing to the above directory, which you may prefer esp. for tcsh.

Setting up the release:

  • You can set up the environment for AtlasPoint1? 13.0.30.13 via the following command:

% source /opt/usatlas/kit_rel/13.0.30/cmtsite/setup.sh -tag=13.0.30.13,AtlasPoint1,setup

Software Release for M4 reconstruction/analysis at grid machines:

The release installation in OSG area at grid machines is different from that above at acas machines. Before you submit jobs using pathena at BNL, please check the availability of the AtlasLogin? version in the following directory:

/usatlas/projects/OSG/atlas_app/atlas_rel/13.0.30/AtlasPoint1

Software patch specific to running at BNL

  • Use local Oracle DB: Add these to the end of your jobOpt
PoolSvc=Service("PoolSvc")
PoolSvc.SortReplicas=True
DBReplicaSvc=Service("DBReplicaSvc")
DBReplicaSvc.UseCOOLSQLite=False
This will use the oracle db at BNL for the conditions database.

  • LAr pool conditions dataset: we need files in two lar conditions datasets: comcond.000001.lar_conditions.recon.pool.v0000 and comcond.000002.lar_conditions.recon.pool.v0000 and create the catalog. I have done so (including patching the missing and wrong files). so please do this in your run directory:
mkdir poolcond
ln -sf /usatlas/groups/calo/hma/LArCondData/comcond/PoolCat_comcond_castor.xml poolcond

Data Availability

  • Raw data sets are being replicated at BNL
  • ESD data sets will soon becomes available.
  • more information soon.

Updates for M6:

Meetings

M6 commissioning meetings started on Mar 10, in coincidence with the US FDR meeting.

Software release:

For M6, the software release is 13.2.0 + AtlasPoint1 patches. New patches normally come out every a few days. The release is installed at BNL, and the patches are updated after it is built at CERN. An example for setting up the release is /usatlas/u/hma/workarea/13.2.0/setup_download.sh . The release is modified such that the conditions pool data uses the most up to date DBRelease, plus the replicated LAr conditions data. The user should configure the job to use the local oracle DB, as described above.

Data replication:

Only a fraction of the raw data are replicated to BNL, and all ESDs are replicated to BNL. See Panda Monitor
