Minutes of a meeting to discuss role of Proof at Tier2 facilities, and the presentation at the upcoming Facilities workshop at UNC.
  • Note: This is following up from the last November's Tier2/Tier3 workshop at SLAC we discussed options for supporting analysis at various facilities. See the Facility planning session of that workshop here. One of the issues was to consider introduction of PROOF (+xrootd) services at Tier2 facilities by the summer. We discussed as a first step writing down a skeletal plan on how to get there.
  • Attendees: Patrick, Sergey, Ofer, Rob, Bruce, Neng, Sau Lan, Michael

Presentation for the UNC workshop on (Bruce + Sergey)

  • Workshop agenda: http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=27430
  • talkpoints.ppt: Possible talking points for the workshop
  • Proposal (Bruce)
    • Take as baseline talk at the PROOF workshop
    • w/ additions from last week
    • multi-usage/users of PROOF
    • Plot of overall processing power as a funciton of users. Would like to go to 10-20 users.
    • Integration of Condor and PROOF
    • Growing number of sites/users are setting up PROOF.
  • Monitoring - not enough time to discuss in depth, but should mention providing various tools, eg. providing an xrootd monitoring package.
  • xrootfs, fuse; users prefer posix-like access, not provided natively by xrootd. Mention, for data management purposes.
  • proof+cod - thats there. Attempting to use condor to manage sessions (this is new). Integrate into the proof master? They are considering this.
  • There are policy as well as technical issues.
  • Sergey will prepare

Hypernews forum to broaden discussion in ATLAS

  • Requested only today.
  • Twiki - set something in the faclities twiki.

Other developments

  • BatchPROOF_COD_1.ppt: Talk from Neng
  • Lots of work in integrating Condor scheduling in batch mode in front of proof.
  • How do we deal with data needed by users, in a mutli-user environment. How to preload? With Condor, you can pre-stage data to xrootd pools. With xrootdfs, integration w/ dq2 tools possible.
  • Meet with PROOF team next week.
