  • Place here anticipated hardware upgrade activities anticipated during this quarter (Oct 1 - Dec 31, 2011)
  • Update SiteCertificationP19 with progress, as appropriate.
  • At the end of the quarter we will update the US ATLAS Facility spreadsheet with newly deployed storage and compute resources (c.f. CapacitySummary).

last phase:
  • dCache core servers were upgrade to new hardware along with the Chimera migration
  • Added ~700 TB of usable disk space; total capacity is now 8,100 TB
  • Upgraded the HPSS disk cache to 120 TB
this phase:
  • Have issued a purchase order for R410/Westmere based farm nodes to upgrade the capacity and to replace obsolete (4 yr old) farm nodes


last phase:
  • Two new file servers, with 360TB total of RAID-6 formatted space
  • Transferred 2 old servers to MSU, where 2 older were retired, gaining a net increase there of 26TB
  • Purchased 3 MD1200 shelves, one each for umfs01/03/04, that added 90TB to total storage

  • Upgrade MD3000i (expired warranty) to MD3600i for VMWare systems
    • Allows 10Gb NIC usage for Virtual Machines
  • Upgrade to VMWare Enterprise Plus and vSphere v5 virtualization software

  • Orders for 720 TB (useable) storage submitted for UC
  • Replacements for two head nodes at IU

  • Re-arrangement of racks at IU
  • 720 TB useable deployed at UC
  • 540 TB useable deployed at IU

  • Brought one rack of Dell MD1200/r710 storage with 3TB drives, 432 TB useable into GPFS
