ADA service infrastructure

Introduction
ADA is implemented as a collection of web services but does not yet have mechanisms for service discovery or creation. Both PPDG and ARDA once advocated the use of OGSI (Open Grid Services Infrastructure) but the GGF has abandoned it in favor of the emerging WSRF standard.

The initial implementation of ADA is done with standalone web services whose instances are started by hand at participating sites. No discovery or creation mechanisms are provided.

Future directions might be to make use of UDDI, move to a framework such as apache or Clarens, or, longer term, to migrate to WSRF.

Service monitor
Users can check the ADA service monitor page to see which ADA services are running. At present, this is the best way for ADA users to discover and select an analysis service.

Clarens
Clarens offers a discovery service that is much simpler than UDDI. We should investigate it for use in ADA.

GLite
GLite plans to offer service discovery as part of its R_GMA monitoring infrastructure.
